Children with cerebral palsy (CP) can have many special needs depending on their condition. Children with a more sever case of CP can suffer from behavior problems, mental retardation, and other associated conditions. Children with CP may require may things such as medications, surgeries, long-term care, therapy and more. This can cause a financial strain on families.

Families can get assistance for all the needs required for their child at their local organization dedicated for these services. On the other hand there are families that are entitled to compensation from a source such as a cerebral palsy lawsuit. Families may be able to recover such financial damages as those incurred due to medical treatment costs, pain and suffering, permanent disability and other expenses related to the cerebral palsy.

Is Medical Malpractice to Blame?

Damage to the brain is the main cause of cerebral palsy. There are many cases in which children are born with CP and the reasons were unknown. With proper medical care some of these cases could have been prevented. There are many factors that cause or contribute to the development of CP, to name a few; giving birth too early, low birth weight, and being deprived of oxygen.

Parents need to know that while its not always likely to prevent these incidents from happening, the professionals in the medical field have obligations to take proper precautions and act in a timely fashion to complications. Not doing so can result in damages suffered for the child and family.
