Avraham “Avi” Karadi Sandwich: Food For Thought

Are you a bizarre sandwich lover? Even though you might not make them or eat them, you can still be a sandwich lover and its nice to know that there are people like us, who simply love sandwiches. Lets take for example the “St. Paul”, ever heard of it? It is usually found in St. Louis, Missouri in certain old time Chinese restaurants. It is a egg foo young, lettuce, tomato, mayo and sometimes a slice of American cheese all on white bread. How about the “chow mein sandwich” a common menu option in Southern Massachusetts on Route 195. Other bizzare sandwiches include the peanut butter and onion sandwich, the peanut butter and pickle sandwich, the peanut butter, jelly and crushed potato chips sandwich and many more. There are no shortages of bizarre sandwiches out there!

Adding to the long sandwich list is the “Avraham Karadi” Sandwich. This sandwich is also called the “Avi Karadi” in some areas. It appears that this sandwich was someone’s idea of a faux gourmet item. I say this because it involves a bit of work in only gathering the ingredients, then ther is preparing them. While I can not imagine enjoying the samdwich after the resulting mix of flavors, I am sure there are those that love it. In fact I have heard some talk about it being pretty popular in certain areas. Anyway here is the list of ingredients, so you can judge for yourself:

Passum, a sweet wine sauce from ancient Roman times. This is produced by boiling the must (whole fruits including the seeds, stems, and leaves pressed) and then adding honey in order to thicken it up.

Garum, an ancient Roman salty fish sauce, approximated today by combining passum with a fish paste and oregano.

An ancient Roman standby, Pine nut sauce, is made by mixing in vinegar, honey and pine nuts as well as a bit of pepper and lovage.

To finish it off add spinach, onions, lettuce and tomatoes as desired. Rye bread would be the usual choice, but black Russian bread comes in at a distant second. As found in egg salad “Egg Paste” is sometimes also added. Now the meat, Roast Beef or Pastrami are some of the favored meats to use. Of course as will all recipes there are some variations, but they all appear to stick to these main ingredients. Oddly, I was unable to find where the sandwiches nickname “Avraham Karadi” or “Avi Karadi” had come from.

1. The Passum: Reducing it to one-tenth its volume, start by cooking the grape juice. Feel free to add honey to taste.

2. The Garum: Add two full tablespoons of fish paste to the Passum. Then add a pinch of oregano.

3. Make the pine nut sauce: Soak pine nuts three hours in vinegar, then blend with honey and dashes of lovage and pepper.

Step Four: Building the sandwich. Spread egg paste on your rye bread (or your black Russian bread if that was your choice). Now add on the meat (Pastrami or Roast Beef) and add vegetables. Pour on the Passum, Garum, and Pine Nut Sauce as desired.

There you have it an “Avraham Karadi” (aka “Avi Karadi”) sandwich, enjoy!

Here’s How You Deal with Fast Food

Is there ANY fast food that’s really good for you? I actually never recommend that you eat ANY fast food, BUT sometimes we forget to plan ahead and find ourselves in a bad situation. Do you just not eat or do we order the fast food?

Never go without eating. It’s actually much worse to skip a meal than to make a good choice at a fast food restaurant. Simply make a good choice, and you’ll be okay.

It’s very easy to plan ahead. Take a few minutes to think about the upcoming day. If you’re going to be away from home for extended periods of time, take some quick and easy meals with you. Take enough with you so you can eat a full meal once every 3 hours or so.

Some quick and easy meals that you can take with you are shaker bottles filled with whey protein and ground oats. Add a few baggies of walnuts and you’ve got some awesome fat burning and muscle building meals. They only take a few minutes to prepare and eat!

I’ll also take some baggies full of veggies that I quickly cut up - some broccoli, green peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. Quick and easy meals - just like fast food except much, much better for building muscle and burning fat.

If, for some reason, you didn’t plan ahead, you’ve got to make good choices when you find yourself ordering food at a fast food restaurant. What would you order if you were standing in a McDonald’s right now? You wouldn’t order french fries, a milk shake, an apple pie, a hamburger, or a fried chicken sandwich. So what would you order?

A better choice would be a chicken salad with about a half pack of ranch dressing. Eat all the veggies in the salad. Don’t take them off or order the salad without them. And always order a water. Never order a Coke or anything else. Drink water!

If you know you’re going to be eating fast food and have no other choice, get nutrition facts for that restaurant and make a good choice before you go. Then, you won’t be tempted to order anything else. It’s actually better to check nutrition facts and make yourself a little list at what you can have from certain fast food restaurants. Make sure what you choose fits your meal plan.

You do not need to eat fast food at all. When you quit eating fast food, I guarantee you’ll feel better, look better, and become a healthier person. Fast food actually makes me sick now. Just the taste of all the grease makes me sick. I love eating healthy - tastes better and feels better!

Healthy eating gives you high energy levels for those weight lifting workouts, creates the optimal environment inside your body for building muscle and burning fat, and keeps your metabolism revved. Your body will reward you for feeding it what it needs! And it definitely doesn’t need fast food.

Is Subway good for you? It’s better than most fast food places, but you can do much better by preparing some quick meals at home. A chicken salad filled with different veggies and a small amount of dressing isn’t a bad choice from Subway. Stay away from the rest of the stuff.

It’s much easier and cheaper to prepare some quick meals at home. You can prepare most meals in much less time than it takes you to go through a drive through line or wait in a line inside a restaurant. With some planning, you can stop eating unhealthy foods, start eating healthy, and building more muscle and burning more fat.

Testing For Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis is a very common vaginal concern of many women out there. However, most women are still too embarrassed to present themselves to doctors for proper medical evaluation and testing for bacterial vaginosis. This would be the root cause for long-term bearing of the symptoms that comes with the condition. It is not recommended though.

There are also instances when some housewives turn to home testing for bacterial vaginosis. There are available choices for this from various sources. Though, the mere presence of a fishy odor in the vaginal area plus off-white with grayish discharge is enough bases for the diagnosis of the condition.

Testing for bacterial vaginosis will determine if it is a mild or severe case of the condition. Proper treatment must then be sought within just a few days so that you will never have to bear the unpleasant symptoms that come with bacterial vaginosis. Medical doctors would most probably recommended antibiotics though there is a slight downside with this kind of treatment. You see there are good and bad bacteria present in the vaginal region.

Antibiotics cannot classify good apart from the bad ones. Due to this, killing of good bacteria may also occur as the antibiotic clears away bad bacteria. This will then cause imbalance of the pH level of the vagina leading to recurrence of bacterial vaginosis in the future.

If you are really keen on finding out if you have bacterial vaginosis due to the presence of the symptoms suggesting the condition but embarrassed to face and discuss this with the doctor, you can try in-home testing for bacterial vaginosis. Not all doctors are very much determined in conducting all the tests to diagnose the condition; usually diagnosis is only arrived based on the presenting symptoms that you will mention in detail. If this were the case, testing yourself if you have bacterial vaginosis would be a wise decision to take. After getting the results, you can head to your doctor and show him the results that you got. Only then will a proper treatment be administered for you.

Home testing for bacterial vaginosis will provide you with the idea if you are really suffering from BV or just a simple form of vaginitis. This will help doctors to come up with the appropriate treatment for your condition. If your doctor is not very much interested in submitting you for all the tests that can determine your condition, try to do it on your own with home testing for bacterial vaginosis.

ABS For Women - Tips For A Healthy Body

You’re focused now on getting yourself thinner, healthier and more sexy. One way to accomplish that is to flatten your stomach and get yourself some abs. For females, creating hard firm abdominal muscles is not impossible it just takes a little work and discipline.

Although it sounds good when you think about it, gaining muscle mass is not the whole picture when it comes to getting the abdominal muscles you want. You need to have a healthy diet and also have some exercise routines that will dissolve the fat from inside your body as well as make you more muscular.

To get fit you’re also going to have to do some toning. For women, just a few minutes a day of exercise such as squats, leg lifts and hanging leg lifts is going to make a world of difference. Particularly if you’re not one to do any real exercise in the course of a day. We as women walk a long way each day and generally do a great deal but to actually engage in muscle toning is something not many of us take the time to do. Just ten minutes a day of toning exercises is going to make a huge difference in your looks and your energy level. Take your friends along with you, if you are laid back. In few days, you will feel active and high on confidence. and your energy level.
