LDL - Not the Only Bad Cholesterol

Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), commonly called bad cholesterol, has been blamed as the sticky component in cholesterol that causes most of the medical conditions associated with high cholesterol.

This cholesterol also produces dangerous effects on the body. The name of this substance is Lipoprotein (LP). Based on a latest study conducted in New England a latest substance has been found in cholesterol.

A very important role is played by Lipoprotein in creating diseases related to heart. LDL is mostly based on lifestyle and what we eat, but LP is heredity. This confirms that the amount of LP in the body cannot be altered by what we eat.

The research that has been conducted so far indicates that medicines like Niacin and CETP inhibitors can lower LP levels. The level of LP is now being used to assess the level of risk of contracting a heart-related medical condition of an individual and may soon be used in various fields.

While high levels of LP indicates a higher risk of possible heart disease, the negative effects that LDL has on heart health is still far more pronounced than those caused by lipoproteins. As mentioned by lead researcher Martin Farrall, “The increase in risk to people from high LP levels is significantly less severe than the risk from high LDL cholesterol levels”. He also mentioned that “one in every six individuals carries one or more of the genes for LP”.

Assuming that nothing can be done to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease is also wrong. You can do a lot to your lifestyle to increase HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol as well as triglycerides in the body.

Some steps that you can take are listed below for your consideration.

- Taking more omega-3 in the form of fish oil will raise your HDL level. It is recommended by American Heart Association to take about 2 to 4 grams on a daily basis.

- Increase the use of avocados, nuts and olive oil as these herbs contain natural steroids namely phytosterols. This will actually regulate cholesterol.

_ Avoid trans fat from your diet. Research says by reducing few calories in the form of trans fat, will actually reduce the chance of getting cardiovascular disease by half.

_ Increase the intake of oats, brown rice and beans. Research has confirmed that having 100 grams of oats will lower the LDL levels by 14 percentage.

- Apart from the above facts, you can also take some vitamin D, fruits that are red, purple and red in color. And following a regular exercise routine will help a lot in regulating cholesterol levels.

You can manage your cholesterol levels in a better way by reading our cholesterol guide.

Weight Gain During Holidays Real?

“Is this going to be enough to feed 10 people?” This is a question my wife asks me at the grocery store each time we host a family event at the holidays. My response (albeit, only in my head) is, “This will be enough to feed 30 people!”

We start the parties by Thanksgiving as it is almost the start of holidays and indulge in over eating. We do not stop this until after the New Year’s day.

The stress of accommodating all friends and family as it is time consuming and brings extra burden financially can lead to extra eating. Is there a reason to overeat in holidays? The major reason is even though we enjoy our holidays it is also stressful to many people.

We tend to eat 3 or 4 time more than what we should eat at the holidays. Even how particular you are with your calorie it just goes out of door once you are fed with more than 3 course of meal.

The person who eats normally in a group is the odd man. It is the power eating in group you will tend to eat more by seeing others.

It is said to me by my relative jokingly “I don’t know if I want another helping or if I’m going to be sick.”

Is there a way to avoid the temptation of over eating during holidays? You overeat just because you want to taste all the available food. The first thing you should do is try to find out why you are overeating.

If so, don’t feel that you can’t eat all of the foods you want. Just make sure to limit your portions. If there are 10 courses, don’t cram all the food you can onto one plate or go back for seconds because you missed out, just put a couple of bites of each on your plate.

It seems bit odd but this really helps a lot. you can use a small plate and small fork while you eat. This will limit the portion you eat.

Additionally, limit the amount of food you take home with you. It’s a lot easier to not overeat when the food isn’t around. Keep in mind that yes, it’s wasteful to throw out food but is it worse than abusing your body by eating it?

You can decline the extra portions politely if the food was pushed to your plate by your loved one. If the person is very much offended then those the persons who have problem it’s not you.

Take a resolution not to over eat immediately. When you start feeling that you are over eaten then don’t wait for your new year resolution to come in. Otherwise you can take a walk after dinner and can add some extra minutes to your workout. Start exercising immediately if you do not exercise.

The alternative way is to use my weight loss breeze program to lose weight in a natural way. It easy to do with guaranteed results. You can try this now as the holiday over eating madness is nearing.

The Link between High Blood Pressure and Alzheimer’s Disease

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, refers to a condition in which the blood circulates through the arteries with considerable force. The American Heart Association believes that high blood pressure affects 73 million Americans, or one in three adults. Hypertension also affects approximately two million children and teenagers in the United States. Various factors may contribute to high blood pressure, including genetics, high salt intake, and hardening of the arteries.

High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and aneurysm. Additionally, a recent study found that hypertension may contribute to Alzheimer’s disease by decreasing blood flow to the brain.

Co-author of the study Dr. Cyrus Raji of the University of Pittsburgh explained, “While hypertension is not a cause of Alzheimer’s disease, our study shows that it is another hit on the brain that increases its vulnerability to the effects of the disease.”

In the study, researchers utilized a form of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure blood flow to the brain. They found that hypertension significantly reduced blood flow to the brain for all patients in the study. Participants who suffered from hypertension as well as Alzheimer’s disease had the least cerebral blood flow, or flow of blood to the brain.

Co-author Dr. Oscar Lopez, also of the University of Pittsburgh said “This study demonstrates that good vascular health is also good for the brain,”. “Even in people with Alzheimer’s disease, it is important to detect and aggressively treat hypertension and also focus on disease prevention.”

Dr. Raji added, “These results suggest that by changing blood flow to the brain, hypertension - treated or untreated - may contribute to the pathology of Alzheimer’s.”

While high blood pressure may not necessarily cause Alzheimer’s disease, it certainly makes the brain more vulnerable to Alzheimer’s disease as well as mild cognitive impairment that may affect memory, language, attention, and reasoning.

All too often, individuals living in the comforts of modern society attribute diseases like Alzheimer’s and hypertension to old age. In most cases, these diseases are influenced more by lifestyle and environment. By taking care of yourself, you can age gracefully and avoid those “diseases of old age.”

Start with a healthy diet. Most Americans consume far too much fat and sodium. Try to eat less meat and more fresh fruits and vegetables. If you salt your food, use only a sprinkle. You may be surprised to learn that the saltshaker is not the main source of sodium. Processed food is the main source of dietary sodium. Even some “health foods” and “low-sodium foods” have extremely high levels of sodium. Read the labels. To be safe, avoid processed foods altogether. You may have to invest a little more time to prepare your own whole foods at home, but your health (and your family’s health) is worth it.

Regular exercise is another key component in healthy, natural living. Your must regularly exercise your mind, body, and spirit to avoid atrophy. “Use it or lose it,” as the saying goes. You don’t have to join an expensive gym or spend hours a week doing grueling exercises. You just have to exercise wisely. To learn more about protecting your cardiovascular system and your brain so that you can enjoy a long, healthy life, see high blood pressure exercises and Alzheimer’s prevention exercises.

Do You Know The Exercises To Stop Snoring?

September 19, 2009 by Christian Goodman

Do you and your spouse suffer from your snoring? Don’t feel bad, over 23% of married couples suffer from this terrible condition. It isn’t just the irritation of keeping someone else awake the whole night or suffering their elbow all night long, but not getting enough sleep can also be life threatening.

If you happen to lose focus when driving your vehicle your life could be jeopardized. Losing focus for just seconds can lead to a life threatening accident. Lack of sleep also affects your physical and emotional well being. This can lead to stroke, heart attack or nervous breakdown.

You can’t blame yourself or your partner. You’ve probably tried several things to eliminate the snoring but nothing helped. Ive heard of many who undertook expensive, dangerous surgery, only to find themselves worse off afterward.

In order to cure snoring you must be aware of what causes it. It is always caused by some sort of blockage in the air passageways. When these passageways become blocked, the airflow becomes irregular and doesn’t flow like it should. The restricted airflow then slams the soft tissue in the passageways around like a door in the wind. Your mouth and throat amplify the sound like speakers powered by a powerful amplifier and your partner can’t sleep.

When the soft palate (the soft part of the back of the roof of the mouth) begins to vibrate the noise really gets bad. If the soft palate is weak then the tip of it may bang down on the back of the tongue like a bongo drum. The tongue may at the same time be dropping into your throat further blocking airflow.

Curing snoring is complicated even though there is only one main cause. The reason is because most people have more than one type of blockage causing their snoring.

Your snoring can be caused by some or more of the following:

1) Weak tongue also falls into the throat and blocks it. This is very common if you sleep on your back but can also happen when sleeping on your side.

2) Tense jaw muscles put pressure on the breathing passages. This is what many dentist try to deal with by putting in dental implants. An easier way to avoid this is loosening up and relaxing the jaw muscles.

3) As has already been mentioned, the soft palate is another source of blockage. When weak, it will flap around and make the snoring sound more easily. In most cases, the soft palate is not too big, it is too weak.

4) Additionally the soft palate may be too weak and will lay too close to the tongue. This makes it very easy for it to flap around and make those horrendous snoring sounds.

5) Anything that builds up in your throat works as a dam to your airway. Most common are cigarette tars or fat in the throat or sinus congestion due to allergies

Can you get rid of the blocks that cause you to snore?

It’s just common sense, you can train this part of the body just like you do any other part of your body. You know, weight training for the breathing passages. With a few exercises each focused on a specific area around the throat can remove any block you have, no matter what is causing your snoring. It is simply that no matter what is blocking your air passages, the same few exercises will be effective for you.

Training the tongue will strengthen it and by doing that prevent it from dropping into your throat when you sleep.

Using the jaw exercises to loosen it up removes tension from it. Don’t be surprised at how much easier you breath after a few sessions of the jaw exercises.

To prevent the throat from closing when you are asleep you can do throat exercises which also strengthen and lift the soft palate keeping it from flapping any more.

Its about working smart not hard. You make the choice how many minutes a day you want to train. The minimal time is only three minutes. How long you exercise every day is up to you. You can train for as little as three minutes a day. For quick permanent results, I recommend taking the program that requires ten minutes a day commitment.

It varies a lot between people how quickly the exercises work. It is recommended that you be ready to work the program for two months. The program will most likely stop your snoring quicker than that. But if you’re ready to give it full blast for two months, you’re guaranteed to cure your self. And you should be ready to commit for about two months to permanently cure your snoring. Although most likely you will have quiet nights long before those two months are up.

Send me your success story. I want to open my email up and find out how you healed yourself using my program.

Since snoring is putting such a strain on peoples relationships, many are forced to sleep apart. Some have learned how to live with it but there may be underlying resentment. I suggest you try my program and give me the benefit of the doubt by making a serious commitment to throat training for a few weeks. I assure you, you and your partner will be sleeping like babies before long.
